GRAPHICS MICROSYSTEMS, INC. |
| Profile: |
GMI manufactures pressroom automation equipment for precise color measurement and ink control. We combine expertise in mechanical design, digital electronics, electro-optics and software engineering to offer integrated, upgradable solutions for the successful color management on most sheetfed or web presses. Our technology leadership has positioned us as the largest independent supplier of ink control and closed loop color systems in the industry. By updating printing presses with the GMI's automated ink key assemblies and closed loop color systems, on both a retrofit and OEM basis with press manufacturers and independent printers, we offer customers the opportunity for improved color print quality with reduced production costs. Our market includes (1) webfed printing presses, including heatset, non-heatset, and one-side form, label, and carton presses; (2) sheetfed presses, and (3) specialty presses, including metal decorating and cup decorating presses. We are committed to building upon our proprietary technology with the introduction of new products. Reacting to print buyers that demand high-quality color graphics on an increasing variety of printed material, GMI introduced three products: ColorQuick on-web color measurement system, CIP3 Interpreter for presetting capabilities, and PrintQuick color-to-color register system. These products further reduce lost time and wasted materials for customers. GMI won the prestigious 2002 GATF InterTech™ Technology Award for ColorQuick's Press Analysis option. This award recognizes products that are expected to have a significant impact on the printing industry. ColorQuick's on-web color measurement system won the 1996 InterTech Award, and the Autosmart system won this award in 1988. Founded in 1983, GMI was spun out of a custom R&D engineering and manufacturing firm. As our expertise developed in electro-optics and machine control, we realized the demand for automated pressroom ink control systems. The Microcolor remote ink control system enables printers to save valuable makeready time through automated adjustment of ink density and greatly reduces production of unusable material due to improper ink levels. Today, more than 2,500 Microcolor systems are installed worldwide on more than 400 different press models. A 1990 merger with Cosar, a pioneer of automated color measurement systems, produced a family of color quality measurement systems and closed-loop color control systems. Today GMI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dover Corporation, a $4 billion company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. GMI is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, with offices in Rockwall, Texas and Mechelen, Belgium. We maintain a network of sales offices in North America and Europe as well as a worldwide service network. The company sells primarily on a direct basis to independent printers and to press manufacturers. |
